It is an African hardwood characterized by its deep reddish-brown color and beautiful striped patterns, and its glossy surface is highly regarded as a material for high-end furniture and musical instruments. Over time, the color becomes slightly subdued, and along with the luster, it evolves into a richer appearance. Although there is currently a stable supply, the availability of high-quality material has been decreasing year by year, making good quality wood increasingly rare. Sapele has a similar appearance to African mahogany and is sometimes referred to as "African mahogany," but its grain pattern has a more dynamic and powerful impression.
